Exhibiting And Selling Work Your Paintings

Many people who take up the art of painting never think of the possibility of exhibiting or selling their work. Their first paintings are often given to family and friends, and people begin to see and admire their work. "How much do you want for that painting?" "Do you think you could paint me a picture of such and such?"

How do you price your pictures? How do you go about selling your work? The price you can command will depend on the type and quality of paintings and the state of the local economy. It would be nice to give a short answer on what to charge, but i can tell you people who can...your local framer, art gallery director, art club secretary or art school teachers. If you show them samples of your work, and ask them for honest pricing advice, they will usually be willing to advise you.
Art shops, galleries, hotels, furniture stores, department stores and gift shops often buy, or will display paintings for sale, taking a modest commission.
Your local library, art shop and art gallery will usually have details of forthcoming art exhibitions which you may be eligible to enter. There are lots of opportunities to exhibit and sell work...but above all else paint for your own pleasure and enjoyment. Exhibiting and selling work is a nice bonus when it happens.
Art clubs and art societies can be well worth joining. Libraries, art schools and newspapers will often be able to give you details of such groups. If you can't find a group...Why not start one yourself?
